I went here. I ate here. I enjoyed it. A lot.
If you know anything about me, you know that I am not one for a spot like this. But, in my new consciousness and my new mission to somewhat get my shit back on track and into this sort of life, for real this time, I was happy to get an invite this tonight from a couple of friends of mine who have lived this life for a really long time. there was a new spot that opened up in Sherman Oaks called gestation, and here it is.
* Best part about it… all of this food, fed three people, and got out of there for less than $80. That may sound like a lot, but three people, in this area, for apps, full course male and desserts, we’re good.
We tried a few different things, I stuck with shit that I know and they went to get some of the things that liked. I tried everything. They made good decisions.
Fried rolls: organic quinoa, taro, scallion, carrots, plum sauce
This I will give a 9 out of 10. I’ve been on a serious quinoa kick for a couple of weeks now and this was prepared as good as any I’ve had. Loved it.
Indian flat bread, tofu, soy protein, mixed curry dip
10 out of f*ing 10. I could eat the shit out of this all day e’ry day. I couldn’t get enough.
I’ve never heard of whatever kind of roti bread that they put with this, but I would use that to wrap anything and eat it. It could be monkey’s ass wrapped in roti and I’d be looking for some sauce to dip it in!
Eggplant, carrots, bell peppers, basil, soy bean sauce with a side of brown rice
10 of 10. But I love eggplant. and I love carrots and I love bell peppers. The basils was a lil bit heavy, but it was good. If there was one more hint of it, I would have been nahhh, but the way they did it, it was awesome. Love.
Wide noodles, jalapeño, green beans, kale, onions, bell peppers, basils
I’m not a wide noodle fan. It was aight. I would say lets go 7 or 8 out of 10.
Rice noodle, tofu, bean sprouts, scallions, ground peanut, homemade tamarind sauce
8 of 10. I could do without the tofu. Even though I get it, I just get tofu. If you are going to be about that life, be about that life. Don’t go for stuff that is close to actual meat. If I’m gonna go vegan / vegetarian / whatever, I’m going all the way – and then maybe I will get my steak on every once in a while.
I dunno what this is… I will find out shortly
Bragg Liquid Aminos is a Certified NON-GMO liquid protein concentrate, derived from healthy soybeans
“Great on Salads & Dressings, Soups, Veggies, Rice & Beans, Tofu, Wok & Stir-frys, Tempeh, Casseroles, Potatoes, Meats, Poultry, Fish, Jerky, Popcorn, Gravies & Sauces, Macrobiotics.”
Soooo, its just salad dressing in a spray bottle. OK.
Desserts were desserts. I’m not a big dessert guy, especially when its rice. I don’t care what you do to it (unless its mango with sticky rice), but I will pass. I could see it being good, but I wasn’t in to either one of these. They liked the desserts though.
