Watch and Listen :: “Damaged World” – Big Boi feat. Menahan Band

Lets start this off by stating the fact that OUTKAST is my favorite rap group of all times. Lets just start there…. Now, for reasons unbeknownst to me, many folks have always considered Outkast just Andre 3000 “and that other guy,” but I, for one, have always been a huge Daddy Fat Sacks fan.

Antoine raps a certain kind of way, or at least used to, but over the last 10 or so years Sir Lucious L. Leftfoot has been putting in so much work, that he is now one of the most underrated rappers in the history of music to me. The sheer amount of music he has put out, combined with the quality of lyrics and his growth as a rapper is incredible. One could make the case, I won’t do it here, but one could make the case that he is a better rapper than André.

To me, it is very much a Havoc and Prodigy situation, where one member of the group is clearly the better rapper at first but as time goes on, the other gets markedly better and overtakes the top guy. Here is the thing though, ‘Toine didn’t have nearly as far to go as Prodigy. The Outkast dynamic was more of a Jordan Pippen thing. 3000 was so great, right from the jump, that it seemed like Big Boi was just the homey and they wanted to put together a group. But if you listen to their catalog, BB has ALWAYS been right there with Andre, always.

The solo catalog that Big Boi has put together is really impressive. You should check out his sound cloud page and listen up if you’ve been sleeping.
