Video :: LA Galaxy x Homeboy Industries

Homeboy Industries is a youth program founded in 1992 by Father Greg Boyle, S.J. intended to assist high-risk youth, former gang members and the recently incarcerated with a variety of free programs.

They have mental health counseling, legal services, tattoo removal, curriculum and education classes, work-readiness training, and employment services. The most distinctive feature of Homeboy Industries are their social enterprises and small businesses, the most popular being the Homeboy Bakery, Homegirl Café which are located right smack dab in Downtown LA.

They also have a catering company, merch, and a silkscreen & embroidery business all to give hard-to-place individuals an opportunity for employment in transitional jobs in a safe, supportive environment where they can learn job skills.

HI has a program that they call “Teambuilding Tamalada” that anyone can take where you make tamales from scratch with Homeboy Industries own homegirls of Homegirl Catering, which the Galaxy players participated in and were toured around the facility. You can do it too by the way.

The Galaxy are having a HI themed Homeboy Night on Wednesday the 27th when they play Real Salt Lake… The Homeboy Food Truck will be onsite and there are signups for a chance to win a new car or $10k in cash.

If you are around, you should try and make the night. I can speak first hand to how good the food is from Homeboy, and the dudes that are working there and helping out are legit trying to better themselves and go over and above to give you a great experience.

This is one of the incredible things that is going on in Los Angeles.
