Set in the Aokigahara Forest, a real-life place in Japan where people go to end their lives. Against this backdrop, a young American woman comes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings not to “stray from the path,” Sara (Natalie Dormer) dares to enter the forest to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who now prey on anyone who crosses their paths.
The Forest stars Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney and is set to be released January 8, 2016
So, there is a lot going on here.
First things first, Natalie Dormer is a f.cking smokeshow, and the minute I saw her on GoT, I knew it. Didn’t take me as long to catch on with her as everyone else, but now everyone is on her tip. Check out this photoshoot that she did with GQ, that closed the deal.
Other thing, once you read the synopsis and check out the trailer of the movie, you get a little curious about this forest since it is a real thing…. well, VICE did a story on it a couple of years ago.
It. Is. Fascinating.
The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently. – VICE
