Big Eyes is an upcoming film, focusing on American artist Margaret Keane, whose work was fraudulently claimed in the 1950s and 1960s by her then-husband, Walter Keane. It tells the story of their heated divorce trial wherein Margaret accused Walter of stealing her paintings. The film is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2014
This movie starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz in the lead roles looks pretty amazing and very Tim Burton. He directs and produces. After checking out the trailer, and looking up the real story, I really want to see this movie.
LDR did the title track for the movie. Here it is. Its really good.
* Spoiler – But its on the internets already *
Apparently, its a true story that goes like this:
Margaret painted lots of paintings depicting vulnerable waifs with enormous eyes.
Her husband was an artist that but really, he was a salesman with a gift and basically said that he painted all of the stuff. They started making bank, from puppets to clothing to images to whatever. Then, after some time, she wanted credit for it and told the world.
When she went public with it, he retaliated with a USA Today article that again claimed he had done the work. So she sued both Walter and USA Today.
In the subsequent slander suit the judge demanded that the litigants paint a painting right there in the courtroom, but Walter declined, citing a sore shoulder. Margaret then painted before the jurors in 53 minutes. She was awarded 4 millsky.
