The story behind the wallpaper (Windows XP) we’ll never forget

From today on (04.09.2014) Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP. The one thing everybody will always remember of Windows XP is desktop image ‘Bliss’, with it’s green rolling hills and bluer than blue sky. Doesn’t the most viewed picture of all times asks for a worthy goodbye? We certainly think so! That’s why we hopped on a plane to Los Angeles and went to visit the photographer Charles O’Rear.

This is the story of one of the most famous images that has ever existed. The banner picture abve is the Windows XP wallpaper which has by some estimates been seen by over 1 billion people, at least. To be honest, I thought it was a photoshop job or something like that… but it turns out that its just a picture from somewhere in Northern California.

Check out the story behind it all after the jump, its really good.

* By the way…. this is so interesting to me, because I totally get it. The picture is perfect. How crazy are those perfect pictures though? Like, how many of us have our own perfect pictures as our desktop wall paper? I took a picture a few months ago at a friends wedding, and its damn near perfect, and its what I’ve used as m wallpaper ever since.

Here it is… its at Lake Arrowhead in SoCal.
