Hey guys, I just read something that will change the world.
Apparently, some really smart researchers at Oregon State University have discovered something twice as healthy as kale, that can be eaten raw or cooked, and when it is cooked it tastes like bacon.
Its this stuff, called dulse.
According to wiki, Dulse is a good source of minerals and vitamins compared with other vegetables, contains all trace elements needed by humans, and has a high protein content. Its commonly used in Ireland, Iceland, Atlantic Canada and the Northeast United States as food and medicine. It can be found in many health food stores or fish markets and can be ordered directly from local distributors.
It is used in cooking: dulse’s properties are similar to those of a flavour-enhancer and can be eaten directly off the rocks before sun-drying, ground to flakes or a powder and in Iceland, traditionally eaten with butter.
According to the release from OSU, their research team received a grant from the Oregon Department of Agriculture to explore dulse as a “specialty crop” and through some fine work, we now have the OSU team applying for a patent on “a new strain of a succulent red marine algae called dulse that grows extraordinarily quickly, is packed full of protein and has an unusual trait when it is cooked. This seaweed tastes like bacon.”
Read through the link because obviously its not just as easy as it appears, as there is some technical stuff going on and they are basically farming this creation, but if they have pulled off what we all hope they have, this could be a game changer.
Can you imagine a world where something healthier than kale, tastes like bacon!?! We’ll have people od’ing on this dulse stuff left and right. Can’t wait!
