The LA based rapper Krondon, one third of the underground hip hop group Strong Arm Steady, has dropped a solo project that I think you need to have in your collection. Its called EVERYTHING’S NOTHING and he actually dropped it earlier this year for free to his loyal listeners, but he’s got a deluxe digitally remastered version that is out on iTunes on November 19.
This record is a quality piece of work from an LA veteran, who is finally getting a little bit of time in the limelight for himself. I’m sure you recognize who he is, he’s the albino cat that you have seen in a ton of LA rapper videos, seen him at shows around LA, and always thought, “Who is that guy?” when you see him in the cut.
I like this song in particular though, because it reminds me so much of this LA sound that we were / are known for.
Its been said ad nauseum for the last two years or so, since Kendrick Lamar’s takeover of the rap game, but we are seeing a ton of LA rapers making a lot of noise and “LA is back.” I’m a Kendrick Lamar fan, but I have to admit that I’m fighting some KD and TDE fatigue right now. There is just too much of them and too much of them being happy with themselves. But thats neither here nor there, but the one thing about that is we are seeing the likes of Nipsey Hussle get more shine, and we are seeing Dom Kennedy get a lot of love out there, and we are hearing DJ Mustards sounds a lot more and we are seeing the LA Leakers blow the fuck up out here. Cassie Veggies. Etc.
This track from Krondon is a timeless LA record. The beat from Cardo is straight LA. Laid back with the old school vibe, heavy bass, chill flow where Kron lets the beat do the work. His lyrics are very LA… weed, money, bitches, thuggin’, chillin with the homies, riding around LA, etc. But its not over the top trying to be hard shit, its just telling a story about the life. I dig it.
* The other thing I love about this song is the title. As I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the country, I’ve noticed that 7 Eleven isn’t nearly as heavy in other parts of the US as it is in So Cal. Out here, 7 Eleven EVERYTHING!!! You can get everything you need from there, that shit is integral to my life though.
Cop it here :: EVERYTHING’S NOTHING on iTunes
