** UPDATE ALERT #2**
‘I can’t afford real life’: Instagram model, 19, who quit her online celebrity life because it was ‘dishonest and contrived’ issues tearful appeal for public to PAY for her new, simpler existence – Daily Mail
I’m going to be honest, I don’t know what the hell is going on with this chick.
Are we seeing an social media-famous person have a melt down?
There is a lot of slander happening right now on the internets because the thought is that this is basically just a cash grab now…. I even wrote on a buddies facebook page, this:
She should just sell Fit Tea…. or start a body jurrrrly line (Khaled voice)… or make swimsuits…
If someone with that had that many followers is broke, she might be smoking rocks.
“I’ll admit, I fell for the okie doke and was actually pretty happy that someone with that kind of reach chose to expose what the bad side of it all is… and she could actually do a lot of good with that narrative, because its a decent point on some level, but then the attempt at a cash grab. Now, I’m done.”
But that was before I put any thought in to it. Now, here is what I am thinking….
Upon hindsight, and I’m just throwing this out here, is there some evil-genius level type of activity going on here? This is just the next iteration of where we are nowadays?
Checkit, we’ve started to make these people somebodies and they’re pseudo famous. Many in society like to see the dumpster fire when real celebs start to lose it but we got our fix a few years back when the Britneys and Christinas of the world melted down…. now, its the made up celebs who are going to be the ones who who fall tf off for our entertainment.
Maybe she just got to it first.
Lets be honest, people are stupid as evidence of all the people who gave some dude making mac n chee a couple hundred grrr on kickstarter, why can’t some cute Australian chick make some bread off of idiocy. Baby gotta eat.
* I think it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
** UPDATE ALERT **
Essena is no longer on social media . And, for very legit reasons . She posted a video on youtube detailing her struggle and everything she dealt with. Its really interesting stuff and I would suggest you watch this video BEFORE you scroll down to the rest of this post . Its important.
I had everything I ever wanted. Now I’m here and I see how contrived, fake and forced consistently proving to the world ‘how amazing my life/body/self is”. I spent everyday looking at a screen, viewing and comparing myself to others. It’s easier to look at shiny and pretty things that appear happy than stopping and just getting real with yourself. Social media only became great for me because of the amount of effort I put in trying to portray this ‘perfect’ person, being born into the flesh I have and sharing emotional parts of my life. Being social media famous is a very unattainable thing for majority of people viewing this. I was attracted to the idea of being liked and of value. I put my value in numbers, not real life people, moments or my natural passions of art, writing… Posting on instagram consumed me. I can’t you how beautiful life is without a phone, without social media, without comparing, or likes or followers. We are not followers, we are beings of individuality and love. I have never felt so free. – Essena
Really good write up from ELITE DAILY:
** If you’ve chosen to continue, keep in mind that this was originally posted in 2013 (as you can tell by the follower numbers on her IG).
We posted this because we saw the lifestyle that she was living and were pretty impressed with an 18 or 19 years old who was living a fit lifestyle. Obviously there was a lot more going on behind the scenes and she was dealing with a lot of stuff emotionally and personally and has appeared to work a lot of it out. Salute to her for that. **
She’s gotten rid of all of the content and we’ve chosen not to delete this post but there are still a few remaining. Her account is still the same and she is posting new content that still talks about a healthy lifestyle but her “selfies” have a different tone to them.
I’ll admit, I am more impressed by this than I was ever before. She is no doubt an attractive girl, but this makes her beautiful. One of the things that we dont really see, and there are reasons for that, is any type of growth on social media. People don’t really change who they are or think any differently because as the great American poet FABOLOUS says, “Money aint the root of all evil now, attention is.”
The more attention we tend to get these days the more ingrained in how we are and what we believe and what we are saying. I think on a granular level, people with just a couple hundred followers, or thousands, love it. But, when you get a much higher level, and you get half a mil, or you get millions, you probably get to a point (if you are aware and mindful) that you really do have a platform to do some real good.
They always say that the richest people are sometimes the unhappiest people. I would argue that point, but you get what they are implying. Getting money and status and fame is no good if you aren’t really free. Essena seems to be free now and she’s growing and I can’t wait to see what becomes of her and her future. This is a great example for the youth.

I will start off by saying that she is just 16 years old, so I am not going to say anything reckless at this point right now, but she’s a cutey. I checked out one of her videos on youtube and saw that she had some pretty cool things to say.
She went from a bad place to a really good place and that in itself is inspiring. You are never too young and never too old to get right.
Check out her social stuff and follow along, its great!

** For girls who wonder what the “thigh gap” thing is all about… girls want it because they think its healthy. I didn’t know it was called a ‘box gap’ by the way…
Guys like looking at it, but not because of what girls possibly think.
We aren’t looking at the gap, or your legs, we are looking at the box. But that is neither here nor there..
