Produced by New Mexico State University in conjunction with Drexel University, as part of USDA grant 2009-51110-05853 this video is 14 seconds of straight up knowledge. It shows why you should never wash raw chicken before you cook it like most of us think we should because the research shows that washing raw poultry under running water causes the water to splash off the surface of the flesh, aerosolize (turn into a fine spray), getting all over the place.
They suggest to just transfer the raw poultry straight from the package into pan. The heat from the cooking process will kill any bacteria that are present. After that, just clean up all around you and you should be home free.
* The question I have is: why the hell is there so much bacteria on chicken in the first place?
